Matt is the Head Coach for MACS, developing swimmers since the team was formed in 2010.
Matt has been a lifelong swimmer in USA Swimming and the Bay Area since the age of 6. Progressing from competing successfully in local age group swimming to national-level competition, he accepted a scholarship to swim for the University of the Pacific, an NCAA Division I institution, where he also started for their nationally ranked water polo program. After a career including a Junior Nationals record, two collegiate school records, 11 Big West Conference titles and medaling multiple times at USA Swimming Nationals, Matt’s swimming career culminated in competing at the 2004 US Swimming Olympic Team Trials held in Long Beach, California.
As a coach, Matt has assisted with the Bay Area teams of Tiger Aquatics and San Ramon Valley Livermore Aquatics across all age groups. He spent two years in Southern California developing the senior group for CLASS Aquatics, a USA Swimming Silver Medal team. He has mentored swimmers to transition as successful collegiate student athletes in programs including USC, Pepperdine, Harvard, Pacific, Princeton, UCSD and Cal Berkeley, earning accolades as NCAA All-Americans and Scholar-Athletes.
Matt graduated from the University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Business Law, as well as a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship.
Anna Marin, MACS Age Group Coach
Anna, a Justin-Siena graduate, is currently at St. Mary’s College in Moraga majoring in Kinesiology: Health and Human Performance focusing on coaching, sport administration, and physical therapy. She has competed in USA swimming most her life earning many awards throughout her swimming career and has been honored as a USA Water Polo Academic All-American. Currently she is playing water polo for St. Mary’s and is swimming with the MACS senior group. She began her coaching career as an assistant coach for the Green Valley Swim Team. Anna has been very involved with the youngest swimmers on MACS, assisting with our learn to swim program and heading up the Mini and Nano groups.
