Vallejo Meet News…

by admin

Good evening MACS Families and Swimmers,

First, I wanted to say how proud Anna and I were of the performances at the Vallejo meet today.  Coming out of the winter training season without many swim meet opportunities by really taking advantage of the warm weather and great competition today led to some amazing races.  Today we saw a new JO cut, two nearly missed JO cuts, nearly a new PRT cut, and 29 lifetime bests. We also saw the least amount of disqualifications we’ve had at a meet like this.  And of course the parental support cannot be overlooked as well… from officiating to timing and to now assisting with the meet computer I can’t say thank-you enough.  I know we have one more day of racing still but it’s hard to think of a better meet we’ve had as a team thus far.

Second, I do want to reiterate to our Senior swimmers to sign-up for our meet next month as well as make sure parents are available to assist run the meet.  If you have any questions about it please let me know.

Third, Anna and I have decided to give the whole team Monday off from practice as the bulk of the team is competing this weekend.  High school swimmers are expected to get in with their high school team.  So enjoy Monday evening, recover and get caught up with everything, and we will see everyone back in action on Tuesday!

And finally, if you have not done so please sign up for the spring session.  We are still missing some registrations.

Thanks, and have a good night,

Matt

Spring Registration is Open

by admin

Letting you all know a couple of things…  First, we all survived the winter and are moving on to our Spring Session next week!  You can register your athlete on our website starting today.  There is a small change in start time for the swimmers in Anna’s group… practice will be starting at 6:00p for this session.  Hopefully this 30 minute change is not an inconvenience for anyone.

Second, we will have to share some lane space over the next three weeks until Masters Water Polo and NVST head back to their home pool.  This won’t impact our youngest swimmers in Anna’s group, but it will mean a later start time for my groups.  We will still be at the pool at 6:00p for dryland daily and will be getting in as soon as lane space is available… hopefully within 30 minutes.  I would suggest that with so many users at the pool during this time that you do not leave anything in the locker room during your practice time.  Again, this is only temporary for the first three weeks of our session.

Third, if you haven’t signed up for the Vallejo meet for the end of this month please do so!  And everyone is encouraged to sign up for the St Helena Swim Meet in March, but only on Sunday.  If you have any questions regarding these two meets, please let me know.

Matt

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday evening, November 30 at 5:00pm, at the pool, there is a meeting for ALL female water polo players!

Kim Everist, Olympic Development Program Girls National Director, is taking time out of her very busy schedule to drive here from the South Bay after work just to give Julian’s girls an informative view of the ODP program. Parents and daughters should attend.

Younger players can stay after early practice and older girls can listen before they get in the pool… It won’t be very long and definitely worth the time. Even if you’ve never entertained the idea of participating in ODP or don’t know anything about it, this is the time to learn – it won’t hurt to listen! She will present an explanation of the program more clearly than from any website!

Sophia and Bret & I can swear by the immediate and long reaching benefits of this program, from improving your own team here at home to national exposure. Other players you know who have participated: Nina Frappia, Frances Dahlberg, Corinne and Kathleen Schafle, Peachy Vicencio, Rachel Tiss, Ghitta Ferrarra, Maddie Anderson, and more.

Julian Szmidt 1950-2011

by admin

To all our NVWP, MACS, Napa Valley Diving and Seal Pups Families,

I am extremely saddened to inform all our families, athletes and supporters that Julian Szmidt – Co-Founder, Team Director and Head Water Polo Coach for our program – unexpectedly passed away last night.

Very rarely do youth athletics have the opportunity to be guided by truly passionate and visionary coaches, coaches with drive that go far beyond just their immediate team and raises the sport as a whole.  Julian was such a coach.  His influence and dedication to aquatic sports in the Napa Valley is beyond measure and his presence will be greatly missed.

I unfortunately do not have any additional information to share at this point but promise to keep everyone informed as best as I can during this emotional time.  MACS Swim Team will meet for practice as scheduled this evening for those that would like to attend.

Matt Mills
